When you think about an entrepreneur, you usually think about someone who is all about business. The reality is that a true entrepreneur is about change, creation and much more than business. They are all about doing something good in the world.

Passion. Perseverance. Values. Empathy. Skilled. Hard Work. Creativity. Humility. Vision. Commitment. Biography.

These are all words to describe the rangatahi the team at Datacom, AWS and Microsoft have been mentoring over the last week! PMP is such an incredible program to foster meaningful outcomes!

Mihi Whakatau

Māori entrepreneurs with a strong sense of cultural identity and guardianship over the land and the sea are driving a boom in Māori business.

Māori businesses now account for an economic asset base of more than NZ$42.6 billion, according to the latest estimates. Small and medium-sized enterprises make up the largest part of the Māori economy.

These entrepreneurs are building on a business approach with ancient roots — a Māori way of thinking and doing business and its ability to reconnect with our common heritage as descendants of Papatūānuku, mother earth.

Below are some of the problems the rangatahi are helping solve!

DODGE

Problem

There are a lot of people that have an addiction to gambling and bars and pubs don’t have anything that can help them fight the addiction

Solution

An app that you need to have to use when you want to go to the gambling machines.

  • you scan the QR code that will be provided to bars/pubs to enter the gambling room

Whanau connect

Problem

is an issue because communities including students and families shouldn’t be left out of the boat. From surveys and research they have found that more than 75% of students know someone who doesn’t have a device.

Students now need devices more than ever.

With Covid taking learning online, students and families without access to these devices are at a clear disadvantage.

Solution

They Pitched the idea of creating a sustainable platform where old devices get a new lease on life, helping communities and students in need.

Using AI to help filter devices into categories for students, in primary, secondary and tertiary education. This would allow the users to find a device that suits their needs.

This is what companies need.

This project appeals to such a wide industry and addresses such an important issue in current society.

This is what companies could use to push the boundaries of what is possible.

This project would create more change in the industry.

This project would be driving forward a new concept of sharing and contributing to build a greater connection. It would be giving people the opportunity to be part of the digital age while ensuring the future of the environment around us.

All through this simple system.

Pasifika Reliabilities

Problem

  • Lack of assistance and opportunities for Pasifika
  • Lack of understanding the cultural identities of Pacifica
  • Lack of knowledge about the Pacifika community
  • Difficulties of finding help

Solution

To create a platform that provides assistance for our Pasifika community such a finding a job, school, or even a place to stay, like housing.

RAFT

Problem

There is a lack of perspectives regarding NZ history that involves Maori and Pacific cultures.

Believing there is information about relating events that have been taught incorrectly or information that has been disregarding and unacknowledged

Solution

They wanted to create an educational tool that is informative and convenient for high school students and adults.

A source that contains multiple perspectives that is easily attainable and diverse.

Ino-vision

Problem

Mäori and Pacifika school leavers readiness for employment and knowledge and understanding of the virtual reality space.

Solution

Creating a User Journey experience using virtual reality & technology that’s both engaging and informative

Collaborations

They are hoping to partner with large tech companies for example Data com/ Microsoft & AWS.

They have found interest within the Health sector for a programme that helps deliver what job opportunities there are for Rangatahi.

They also are hoping to roll it out to the MOE as this is a target for those rangatahi between the age of 16–18 y/o.

Amazing work by everyone and can’t wait to see what RAFT and Ino-Vision have to share in the national finals as the winners of this event in Christchurch.
